All that, and a Dylan guitar solo.
Heaven.

PO Jerry Falwell |
Jerry Falwell, father of the political evangelical movement, finally kicked it.
No RIP for him.
A big Peace Out, and maybe a Please Stay Dead.
I'm not saying I would have wished him dead directly, just that the world is a better place without him.
President Bush is upset.
He said Falwell lived a life of "faith, family, and freedom".
Said both he and Laura were "deeply saddened" by his death.
"He taught young people to remain true to their convictions and rely upon God's word throughout each stage of their lives," Mr Bush said.
Idiot.
Fucking Idiot.
If I could have made a list a week ago of people I would prefer for my President to ignore/disrespect, Jerry would have been pretty high on that list.
Here's a classic from Falwell, regarding 9/11:
"I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.'"
On AIDS:
"AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals."
Fun for the whole family.
Hey, try this one Jerry:
"sudden cardiac death."
Bye bye.

Far out |
"Flâneur" by Gould, Berlin 2007.
Very cool.
Stop-motion goodness. No digital manipulation. REally!
Lots of ink and paper were harmed during filming. Even without the "moving pictures" miracle, the photo-art is great lookin in/of itself.
I'm definitely doing a similar project this summer. As an amateur of course, but art belongs to everyone. Let me know if you're interested.
Enjoy:

wank |
It must be hard to be a music critic. Some things can be so right and so very very wrong at the same time. I will not even attempt a real opinion about this. But here is a short tribute to the fine, blurry line between skill and shite.
Wanko. Is it better? Worse?

Here's an opposing path.
This video's quite long, but is actually worth watching in its own right. The first 30 seconds or so will give you the idea.
Here's another.
Well, I will at least say that the former make me feel terrible about my abilities, and equally proud. There are so many paths a person can follow in any discipline. Think of your chosen realm and path. Are you like these men? Could you be? What makes someone obtain a skill that they can't control? Can one control it?
Maybe it comes down to communication. Art does, maybe. A haiku, a novel. A picture worth a thousand words. Can Vai tell you anything at all? Sharing, and not just showing, perhaps?

"Tell me one good thing you ever did in your life."
- WINSTON NILES RUMFOORD
________________________________________
Break every link with air and mist,
Seal every open vent;
Make throat as tight as miser's fist,
Keep life within you pent.
Breathe out, breathe in, no more, no more,
For breathing's for the meek;
And when in deathly space we soar,
Be careful not to speak.
If you with grief or joy are rapt,
Just signal with a tear;
To soul and heart within you trapped
Add speech and atmosphere.
Every man's an island as in
lifeless space we roam.
Yes, every man's an island:
island fortress, island home.
-Bee Rumfoord

"Sim-faw!" cried the sleeper menacingly, to anyone who might menace his sleep. "Soo! A-so! What's a mabba? Nf."
"You better go," whispered Constant.
"Yes," whispered Salo.
"Good-by," whispered Constant, "and thanks."
"You're entirely welcome," whispered Salo. He backed into the ship, closed the airlock. The ship arose with the sound of a man blowing over the mouth of a bottle. It disappeared into the swirling snow and was gone.
"Toodle-oo," it said.
Malachi Constant's feet squeaked in the snow as he walked to the bench. He brushed aside the snow on the bench and sat down.
"Fraugh!"cried the sleeper, as though he suddenly understood all.
"Braugh!"he cried, not liking at all what he suddenly understood.
"Sup-foe!"he said, saying in no uncertain terms what he was going to do about it.
"Floof!"he cried.
The conspirators presumably fled.

good way to die. |
Funny, I think I'd give this a try before a lot of much less dangerous things. The payoff is just so great. Pretty amazing what human beings are capable of. Simultaneously pointless and impressive. Good way to die, good reason to live.

Keepon |
It's called a keepon.
It gets it's moves control from Max/MSP, something I'd really like to master in another life.
Created by Marek Michalowski & Hideki Kozima.
It's a Spoon song, which happens to be a band I'm moderately into, so cheers to that.
'Nuff Said:
I'd really like to see what could be done with this in a live concert application, with keepons or their kin increased one hundredfold in size and ability. We have the technology. Now it's just a question of interest and financing. I have seen the future, and it is synthetically grooving.

I'm not really that into violence. But everyone loves watching a cow kick some ass.
The slo-mo and terrible slo-mo sound really sold it for me. Also, both the guy and cow are right back on their feet.
