It must be hard to be a music critic. Some things can be so right and so very very wrong at the same time. I will not even attempt a real opinion about this. But here is a short tribute to the fine, blurry line between skill and shite.

Well, I will at least say that the former make me feel terrible about my abilities, and equally proud. There are so many paths a person can follow in any discipline. Think of your chosen realm and path. Are you like these men? Could you be? What makes someone obtain a skill that they can't control? Can one control it?
Maybe it comes down to communication. Art does, maybe. A haiku, a novel. A picture worth a thousand words. Can Vai tell you anything at all? Sharing, and not just showing, perhaps?
